Axial Biotech reported today that it has hired Dr. Roberto A. Macina as vice president of research and development. Macina, the biotech company said, will report directly to its chairman and chief scientific officer, Dr. Kenneth Ward. Axial Biotech said Macina, who hails from Argentina, previously worked with the molecular diagnostics department at SmithKline Beecham, focusing on the discovery and characterization of novel cancer-causing genes. He completed his post-doctoral fellowship at The Wistar Institute, Axial Biotech noted. Founded in 2002, Axial Biotech develops molecular diagnostics for common spinal diseases and disorders.
