Jabber Acquired By Cisco
Denver, Colorado-based Jabber, a maker of instant messaging and presence software, has been acquired by networking giant Cisco, Cisco said Friday morning. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. Cisco said that Jabber will become part of its Cisco Collaboration Software Group, and will be used to enhance the existing presence and messaging functions of its Cisco Collaboration portfolio. No details on the acquisition's impact on employment or its Denver presence were announced. Jabber develops instant messaging software which connects with industry standards such as XMPP, which allows for interconnection to systems from AOL AIM, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft Office Communications Server and IBM Sametime. The deal s expected to close in the first half of Cisco's FY2009.
