Level 3 Communications, a provider of communications services, revealed Monday that independent game developer Funcom is using Level 3 as its exclusive content delivery network services provider for its flagship title, "Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures." The financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. Level 3 said its content delivery services enable Funcom to deliver game updates during high-traffic situations. Per their agreement, Level 3 said, it is providing Funcom with potentially hundreds of gigabytes per second of on-demand storage, caching and download services for game-patch updates. In the two months since "Age of Conan" launched, the Broomfield, Colo.-based company said it has delivered more than 2 petabytes of updates to game subscribers—the equivalent of more than 1 million high-quality online movies.
