Broomfield, Colorado-based
Level 3 Communications reported this week that it has been selected by video rental service
Neflix, as that company's primary content delivery network (CDN) provider. Financial details of the deal were not announced, however, Level 3 said the win will result in the firm accelerating its plans to invest in its CDN capacity. The company said it is doubling its storage capacity, and adding 2.9 Terabits per second (Tbps) of CDN capacity to support Netflix. Netflix is using Level 3 for its online video streaming services; Netflix now has a library of over 20,00 titles, which the firms said they are moving over to Level 3 now with preparations to serve traffic starting January 1st of next year, 2011.
