Dow Jones VentureSource reported today that venture capital investments in U.S. companies rose to $29.9 billion in 2007, the highest level of venture capital investment since 2001. The firm reported that there was an 8% increase in capital investments in firms, with 2,648 deals reported in the U.S. last year. Venture investments were strong in biopharmaceutical, medical device and energy-related companies. The numbers corresponded with the PricewaterhouseCoopers/National Venture Capital Association MoneyTree report, released Saturday, which showed $29.4 billion in capital invested nationally in 2007, and a similar surge in investments in clean technology and life sciences. The Pwc/NVCA numbers are from Thomson Financial.
