Provo, Utah-based Ancestry.com is reporting that the firm's online genealogy services has had more than 275 million individual profiles and 3 million family trees created on the firm's site since July 2006. The site, which is used by families to track their family history, said that the growth came after the debut of new tree-building and sharing tools last July. Ancestry.com provides online family history and genealogical research tools, and has been around since 1997; the firm is facing new online competition from startups such as Los Angeles-based Geni.com, which claims 5 million profiles; Israeli firm MyHeritage.com, and new, New York-based iFamily, which raised a round of venture capital last week.
