Phiar Corp., a provider of metal-insulator electronics, announced Monday that an arm of the Department of Defense recently recognized the Boulder, Colo.-based firm. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, which serves as the Defense Department's central research and development organization, bestowed Phiar with the Award for Small Business Innovation Research during an Aug. 8 awards ceremony. Phiar said it has already completed two DARPA contracts and is currently handling a third for DARPA II. Phiar added that it is presently developing metal-insulator electronic devices that exceed the performance of semiconductor-based devices yet are less expensive to manufacture.
