Salt Lake City, Utah-based Linux Networx, a provider of clustered Linux-based supercomputers, said today that the Department of Defense has placed an order for five supercomputers from the firm. Linux Networx said that the DoD high Performance Computing Modernization Program will install three of Linux Networx Advanced Technology Clusters and one LS-1 for the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Major Shared Reosurce Center (MSRC) and an LS-1 for Dugway Providing Ground. The buy adds 80 TFLOPS of capability for the MSRC. Linux Networx developing Linux-based, supercomputing clusters. The high performance computing systems are based on an infiniband network and 10GigE network technology.
