Apple's latest release of its popular iTunes music download service has been receiving some scrutiny, due to its use of Orem-based Omniture's web
analytics software. Apple's latest iTunes release, 6.02, has been
attracting the attention of bloggers and others because of its use of
Omniture's web analytics software. Apparently, the latest version of
iTunes and its MiniStore song recommendation service sends data to
Omniture's servers for use in the recommendation service. Users of the
iTunes music service noticed after the release of the iTunes 6.02 service
that information was being sent to 2o7.net, a domain owned by Omniture to
collect user usage data for its web analytics services. In response, Apple released a new version of the iTunes software yesterday making the ministore information collection an option in the software.
