Colorado Fines Uber $8.9M For Background Check Failures
The Colorado Public Utilities Commission has fined ridesharing app developer Uber $8.9M, for allowing 57 people to drive for the service despite criminal records, drunk driving convictions, and other issues, the CPUC said on Monday. The CPUC said the drivers included 12 drivers with felony convictions, convicted drunk drivers, and even a felon that had escaped from the Colorado Department of Corrections. Uber blamed the issue on an "error in its background check process in Colorado" and said it is working to correct the issue.
