Vivint Launches Wireless Internet Service

Provo, Utah-based Vivint, which offers up a wide range of "smart home" services, said today that it has launched its own, wireless broadband service, called Vivint Internet. According to Vivint, it will offer up up to 100 Mbps download and upload speed on its new service, which starts at $59.99 per month. Vivint claims its service is faster than any other wireless Internet service provider in the U.S., due to its use of local, fiber optic access points in neighborhoods, which are used to beam broadband to its customers. Vivint said it initially has launched the service in San Antonio and El Paso, Texas, as well as cities throughout Utah, with plans to expand into three new markets by the end of the year. In a related move, Vivint said it has added Stanford professor Arogyaswami J. Paulraj as a technical advisor; the company says its radios and antennnas used in the service were developed in conjunction with Dr. Paulraj, an expert in MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) wireless communications.
