U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Sets Up In Denver

In a move that will help cement Denver's growing prominence in the technology startup community, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office said Monday that it is opening up a permanent, satellite office in Denver. The U.S. PTO is hiring as many as 120 patent examiners in the Metro Denver area for its office. According to the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation, the move is expected to bring hundreds of direct and indirect jobs to the region, worth a total of over $440 million over the first five years of operation. The new office is led by Russel Slifer, who was previously Chief Patent Counsel at Micron Technology. The new office is in the Byron G. Rogers Building in Denver's central business district. The USPTO said that the office is geared at helping the region's entrepreneurs advance cutting-edge ideas to the marketplace, grow their businesses, and navigate the intellectual property system.
