Colorado Congressman Starts Accepting Bitcoin For Campaign
In a move that probably will not surprise any of his constituents, Colorado Congressman Jared Polis has started accepting Bitcoin contributions for his campaign. Polis--a technology industry insider who was one of the original founders of startup aaccelerator TechStars--has been a big proponent of Bitcoin on Capitol Hill. Polis was elected in 2008 to represent the second Congressional district of Colorado. Polis, on his donation website, said the move came after the Federal Election Commission (FEC) finally cleared the way to him take Bitcoin for campaign contributions. He said--in addition to raising money for his campaign--he's trying to promote personal financial freedom by accepting a digital currency for contributions.
