Spectra Logic Challenges Overland In Latest Patent Development

Boulder-based tape library manufacturer Spectra Logic says that it has dealt a "devastating blow" in its patent battle with Overland Storage. Citing a ruling from an Administrative Law Judge at the U.S. Patent Office, Spectra Logic said that the ruling indicates that Overland's main patent in its lawsuits against Spectra Logic are invalid, having been disclosed in prior art in the manual for an old IBM tape library product. Spectra Logic said that "Overland and its attorneys would be reckless at best in pursuing the infringement litigation against Spectra Logic." The two have been sparring in courts over patents for the last year.
