Ancestry.com Buys 1000memories

Provo, Utah-based Ancestry.com, the family history site, has acquired 1000memories, a San Francisco operator of a service which converts and digitizes photographs and puts them into a digital archive for users. Financial terms of the deal were not announced. 1000memories said its entire team is joining Ancestry.com. 1000memories products include ShoeBox for iPhone, which the company said now allows users to directly post photos directly to their forebears' profiles on Ancestry.com, and is part of a tighter integration of the two services. 1000memories had originally started as a site for online obituaries and tributes, but later transitioned to photo scanning and archives. The company was venture backed by Greylock Partners, Y Combinator, Paul Buccheit, SV Angel, Caterina Fake, Elad Gil, Ben Ling, Keith Rabois, Floodgate, Chris Sacca, Mariam Naficy, Aydin Senkut, and Babak Yazdani.
