Millenniata Deploys With Dell In Europe
Salt Lake City-based Milleniata, the developer of permanent storage technology for optical drives, said Monday that its technology is being deployed by computer maker Dell. Milleniata said that Dell will offer its M-DISC technology via M-DISC compatible LG Electronics DVD and Blu-ray optical drives in Dell laptop and desktop computers in Europe. Milleniata has developed optical disk technology for DVDs, which uses a rock-like material instead of dyes in optical disks to store data, which the firm says provides permanent storage of data. The firm's technology--originally conceived of at BYU--is aimed at defeating "bit rot" -- the loss of data on optical disks due to aging. The company claims its technology will allow data to be stored up to 1,000 years, rather than much shorter times in traditional optical disk technology.
