Ancestry.com Buys Archives.com For $100M
Provo, Utah-based family history site Ancestry.com said Wednesday that it has gobbled up Archives.com, a competing family history website, for $100M in cash and assumed liabilities. Ancestry.com said the move will help it add differentiated services which target a complementary segment of its market, and also bolster its technology base. Archives.com was owned by Inflection LLC, and was based in Silicon Valley. Ancestry.com said that the buy adds more than 380,000 paying subscribers, who are paying $39.95 a year to access information on Archives.com.
