Utah Groups Looks To Build $800M Digital Media Industry
A coalition of local, Utah groups said Tuesday that it is working on efforts to make digital media an $800M industry in the state. According to the Utah Cluster Acceleration Partnership, its is hoping to double the number of digital media jobs and digital media revenue by 2016 in Utah. The effort is being supported by Grow Utah Ventures, the Utah System of Higher Education, the Utah Department of Workforce Services and the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development. The group said that Utah currently has over 1,500 workers in the digital media cluster, and businesses in the area have annual revenues exceeding $415M. About 41 percent of those jobs are in video games, and 20 percent in simulations.
