OPXBIO Signs Dow Chemical
Boulder-based OPX Biotechnologies and Dow Chemical said Monday that they have signed a joint development agreement, to develop an industrial-scale process to produce bio-based acrylic from renewable feedstocks. Financial details of the deal were not announced. OPXBIO will contribute its expertise in strain development and bioprocessing to the effort. The two said they will discuss commercialization of the technology to market if the collaborative research effort is successful, with a time range of bringing a bio-based acrylic acid to market in three to five years. OPXBIO is developing processes to manufacture renewable bio-based chemicals and fuels.
