Alaska Airlines Launches Wi-Fi In Alaska With Aircell

Alaska Airlines said Friday that it is using systems from Aircell to provide wireless service between Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alasaka. According to Alaska Airlines, the new service will be complimentary to its passengers traveling between the two companies until the rest of Aircell's network in Alaska goes live later this year. Aircell has major operations in Broomfield, Colorado, in addition to Illinois. Financial details of the network expansion were not disclosed; Aircell added Alaska Airlines as a customer in February. Alaska Airlines currently charges $4.95 and up for Gogo Internet access for customers traveling across the Lower 48. The airline said it has outfitted more than 70 percent of its Boeing 737 aircraft with the service so far, with plans to cover the entire fleet by early 2011.
