Colorado Technology Firms Look To Stave Off Software Tax Effort

Colorado technology firms are still hoping to stave off an effort to tax software installs in Colorado, as a Colorado House bill HB 1192 advanced Monday. The bill was introduced into the Colorado State Legislature last week by Gov. Bill Ritter, and proposes to help balance Colorado's budget. According to local technology industry group CSIA, the "job-killing" legislation places a new tax on any software purchase or installed in Colorado. The group claims that the bill will have a devastating impact on job growth and economy recovery in the state, and has been running an urgent lobbying effort to prevent the new taxes. The bill is now going up before the Senate, where it also needs to be approved, and could become law as soon as March 1st. The CSIA represents around 5,000 software companies in Colorado.
