First Solar: 1GW Produced This Year

Tempe, Arizona-based First Solar claimed this morning that it is the first, PV company to manufacture and ship more than 1 gigawatt worth of solar modules in a single year. The firm said the modules can produce enough electricity to serve 145,000 average American homes. The company said its manufacturing capability at the beginning of 2007 was only 75 megawatts per year, and is now at more than 1GW.
