Aircell Gains Certification, Launches Business Aviation Product

Broomfield, Colorado-based Aircell, a developer of high speed Internet systems for aircraft, said this morning that the firm has received full FAA certification for its business aviation systems, and has made its first official install. According to the firm, it has received STC and PMA certifications from the FAA, and has installed its products aboard a Bombadier Challenger 605 operated by Midcoast Aviation. Aircell's products allow Wi-Fi users to surf the Web, send email, and access the Internet using a combination of 3G mobile wireless technology and a network of ground stations. The firm said its business aviation product, the ATG 4000, weighs 11 pounds, with two belly-mounted antennas which weigh 1.25 pounds each. Aircell's commercial products are being used on commercial airliners, under the name Gogo Inflight Internet; those products are installed on American Airlines, Virgin America, Delta Air Lines and AirTran Airways.
