Syntax-Brillian Sells Tempe Operations
High-definition television manufacturer Syntax-Brillian Corp. revealed Monday that it has agreed in principle to sell its LCoS-production operations in Tempe, Ariz., to UK-based Compound Photonics Ltd. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. However, Syntax-Brillian said it has received an equity interest in Compound Photonics as a result of the transaction. Syntax-Brillian elaborated that the Cambridge, England-based company will acquire Syntax-Brillian's LCoS-manufacturing equipment and inventory and will also lease the portion of Syntax-Brillian's Tempe plant where the liquid-crystal-on-silicon microdisplays and light engines are made. However, Syntax-Brillian said it will retain all LCoS-related patents and intellectual property, which it will license to Compound Photonics. Headquartered in Tempe, Syntax-Brillian Corp. is best known for its Olevia-branded liquid-crystal-display televisions.
