EchoStar, Competitor Ink Deal with Clearwire

Englewood, Colorado-based EchoStar Communications Corp., the parent company for the popular satellite television service DISH Network, and chief competitor DIRECTV have partnered with wireless broadband Internet service provider Clearwire Corp. to bring high-speed Internet, video and voice to all current and future Clearwire markets, Clearwire reported Thursday. According to Clearwire, the agreement should launch later this year, and will allow DIRECTV and EchoStar to market a bundled service that includes Clearwire's wireless service, to their residential customers. Clearwire will also sell DIRECTV and EchoStar satellite video services. Craig McCaw's Clearwire is developing a new wireless ISP based on the WiMax wireless standard.
