US Sees $6.96B In Venture Capital In First Quarter
A report released today by Dow Jones VentureOne and Ernst & Young found that U.S. venture capital investments reached $6.96 billion in the first quarter of 2007, up 8 percent from the same period last year. The investments include 584 venture capital deals for the quarter nationwide, with the areas with big increases in investments in alternative energy and environmental technologies and healthcare. Joseph Muscat, Americas Director of the Ernst & Young Venture Capital Advisory Group, attributed the increase in investments for the quarter to a reasonably good exit climate for venture-backed companies, which he said has opened the door for more companies to secure venture capital financing.
