Novell Rolls Out Linux Desktop Enhancement
Novell released a new enhancement to its Linux operating systems distributions today, saying that it has added support for Xgl (X over OpenGL) graphics for Linux desktop users. The firm said that Xgl is a new core rendering technology for Linux desktops, that takes advantage of accelerated 3D rendering hardware. The new Xgl/Compiz software allows Linux software to take advantage of commonly available 3D rendering hardware, speeding up visual effects and animation. The Xgl software is available as part of Novell's OpenSUSE project, a Novell sponsored project to provide community testing and development of SUSE Linux distribution software.
