Recursion Pharmaceuticals announced this morning that it has raised $12.9M in a funding round, to go towards accelerating drug discovery through the use of artificial intelligence. The startup said the funding was led by Lux Capital, and also included Obvious Ventures, Epic Ventures, Data Collective, AME Cloud Ventures, Wild Basin Investments, and angels. Obvious Ventures is the venture funding firm co-founded by Evan Williams, the founder of Twitter. According to the company, it is developing a proprietary drug discovery platform which combines high-throughput biology and automation with artificial intelligence (AI) advances. The company is a spinout of the University of Utah, and is led by Chris Gibson.
