Zayo Acquires Viatel, Shuffles Executives
Boulder, Colorado-based bandwidth provider Zayo Group announced early this morning that it has acquired European infrastructure provider Viatel, in a deal worth approximately $102M (95 million EUR). Viatel is a subsidiary of Dublin, Ireland-based Digiweb Group. Zayo said the buy will help it add Pan-European intercity and metro fiber capability across a 8,300 kilometer fiber network, spread across eight countries. Separately, Zayo said it has made a major, organizational change which will reorganize the company along two new oprating groups, Strategic Business Segments, and Global Sales and Customer Success; The Strategic Business unit will be led by Chris Morley, and the Global Sales unit will be run by Matt Erickson. The company said that David Howson, Scott Beer (formerly General Counsel), and Stephanie Copeland (formerly president of ZColo) are leaving the company.
