Boulder-based
Sphero, the robotic ball developer led by Paul Berberian, has long been known in the local technology community for its innovative designs and technology. That reputation has just gone global, after it was revealed that the new, Star Wars robot--
BB-8--which is heavily featured in the first trailer for the upcoming Star Wars movie--was created by none other than Sphero itself. Unlike many of the creations in the movie, BB-8 is, surprisingly, not computer generated, but an actual, working robot. The placement of Sphero's robotic ball in Star Wars apparently came due to Sphero's participation in the Disney Accelerator program and mentorship by Bob Iger.
