The world's largest solar farm--a huge, 290 megawatt photovoltaic farm between Yuma and Phoenix--has just opened, according to
NRG Energy and
MidAmerican Solar. According to the two, the new facility, which can power up to 230,000 homes when it's running at full capacity, is the world's largest solar photovoltaic facility, and is supplying energy to Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E). NRG and MidAmerican said the new Agua Caliente Solar Photovoltaic Facility was designed by Phoenix-based First Solar, which will also operate and maintain the facility for the companies.
