Amkor Expects To Pay $30M Over Patent Dispute
Chandler, Arizona-based semiconductor maker
Amkor Technology
said it expects to pay around $30M to competitor
Tessera
, after a ruling by an arbitration panel. Amkor said that the panel has found that no royalties are due to Tessera on seven of ten asserted U.S. patents, with the remaining patents have an estimated impact due to damages and interest of $30M. Amkor said the amount is far less than the $400M that Tessera had been claiming it was owed in the matter. The two firms have been in arbitration since August 2009, over disagreements over patent licenses between the two companies.
