The Colorado Springs-based unit of
Maxim Integrated Products, which develops 12 Gb/s SAS expander technology, has been sold to
PMC-Sierra, PMC said this morning. According to PMC, it acquired the Server Storage 12 Gb/s Expander Product Line from Maxim, in order to enable the firm to offer end-to-end 12Gb/s SAS products. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. The two said that the majority of the personnel working on the product are based in Colorado Springs. Impact on those operations was not disclosed. SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) is a data storage protocol used to connect disk drives to RAID systems and servers.
