MapQuest has expanded its lineup of open mapping sites, saying yesterday that it has opened up eight new sites based on OpenStreetMap. MapQuest said it launched sites in Australia, Denmark, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, and Sweden. The sites are the latest in a series of country-specific sites based on the OpenStreetMap (OSM) data; that project allows anyone to enter, edit, and comment on mapping data in a country, and is being targeted as an alternative to traditional (and expensive) map datasets.
