USTAR Gives $258K To Eight Projects
USTAR, the Utah Science Technology and Research initiative, said Thursday that it has awarded $258,500 to eight commercialization projects at local universities and colleges. According to USTAR, the awards--typically worth around $30,000--go towards the prototyping, testing, and commercialization of products and services in high growth markets. Awardees for this round of grants included Solar Fins/Dixie State College for a passive solar water heating system; Pixelture/Salt Lake Community College for classroom training software; Trona Solutions/SLCC for food preservation technology; IDT Services/Southern Utah University for head sensing RFID tags for the railway market; TouchMD/Southern Utah University, for patient education software; Hyperblimp/Weber State for gas barriers for packaging; Hovercraft Autonomous Target Vehicle/Weber State, for its low cost hovercraft; and Preventis Medical/Weber State for a low-sodium fluid and dispenser to reduce ventilator-assocaited pneumonia.
