Fusion-io, the developer of solid state storage products, is trumpeting its use in a number of recent 3D movies. According to Fusion-io, it has been used in the production of titles Alice in Wonderland, Avatar, How to Train a Dragon and Clash of the Titans, as well as a number of other upcoming films. Fusion-io said its products are being used by entertainment companies to shorten production time, "significantly" speeding workflow and review sessions for directors and artists. Fusion-io develops solid state disk drives, which use memory--rather than spinning platters--for storage. The firm is heavily backed by investors Accel Partners, Andreessen Horowitz Fund, Dell Ventures, Lightspeed Ventures, Meritech Capital, New Enterprise Associates, Samsung, Sumitomo, and Triangle Peak Partners.The firm raised a big, $45.0M venture round in April, which took its total venture funding raised to more than $111M.
