Boulder, Colorado-based
Tendril, a developer of energy management software for the smart grid market, is expanding into the device business, saying Thursday that it plans to introduce a new device which allows people to get real-time information on their energy usage. The firm said its new device--the Tendril Vision--was designed by noted design house IDEO, and will offer a direct link with utilities to get real-time information on energy use and cost. The appliance looks like a digital clock, and includes information about demand and peak pricing periods at utilities, and also links to a web portal service. Tendril did not release pricing on the new device, which is approximately 8 inches by 6 inches; the firm said it would be showing the device at the DistribuTECH show next week.
