Denver-based managed hosting provider Hosting.com is courting virtualization customers this week, saying earlier that it has added support for virtualization software provider VMware's file format. The company said that virtual machines stored in Vmware's VMDK (Virtual Machine Disk Format) can now be uploaded directly to the firm's hosting service. The capability makes it easier for customers to develop and tune their own PC images, before deploying them into Hosting.com's cloud environment. The firm said the functionality was first released in limited beta in November. VMDK files store the entire image of a virtual machine running in VMware. Hosting.com says it is a strategic partner of VMware, through VMware's vCloud program.
