Ascent Solar Technologies, which is developing flexible thin-film solar modules, said Tuesday that the firm has been included as part of a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) project. Ascent said that it has been selected by the DOE's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) for a $315,000 subcontract, part of the DOE's Photovoltaic (PV) Technology Pre- Incubator project. Ascent said the effort will look at using Ascent's proprietary process to replace layers on CIGS devices, to improve performance of CIGS devices.
