Fiber optics-based communications services provider Level 3 Communications revealed today that it has signed the Archdiocese of New York as a customer. The Broomfield, Colo.-based company said it has already provided video backhaul, encoding, caching, streaming and storage services in support of an installment mass for an Archbishop of New York, which occurred April 15. The financial impact of the customer win was not disclosed. Level 3 said it was responsible for acquiring and backhauling a broadcast signal from St. Patrick's Cathedral and deliver it to a broadcast encoding center, which was then encoded and distributed to audiences viewing the event live.
