Ascent Solar Starts Production Line
Littleton, Colorado-based Ascent Solar Technologies, a manufacturer of thin-film solar modules for the solar power market, announced today that it has begun regular production of its CIGS modules on a production line at its Littleton Colorado plant. The firm claims its the first company to commence production on fully integrated, lightweight thin-film CIGS modules using a plastic substrate. Ascent said it will initially be running a single shift on its production line, eventually moving to its full, three shift, 1.5 MW capacity. Ascent's CIGS solar modules use less silicon than traditional polysilicon solar modules, and are expected to help drive down the cost of installing solar power.
