Boise, Idaho-based
Micron Technology has put another 2000 employees on the chopping block, saying Monday afternoon that it will phase out its 200mm wafer manufacturing operations in Boise. According to Micron, the move comes because of "deteriorating economic conditions" and decreased demand for its 200mm specialty DRAM products. The firm said it is cutting 500 employees in the near term, and as many as 2,000 positions by the end of its fiscal year. The firm said the cuts are on top of an already steep 15 percent cut in workforce announced last October. Micron said that after the cuts, it will have more than 5,000 employees in Idaho. Micron is taking a charge of $50M for he cuts.
