Level 3 Communications Inc. revealed Thursday that its Business Markets Group has renewed a multi-year contract with The Quilt, a regional network of Internet service providers. The financial impact of the authorized vendor deal was not disclosed. Broomfield, Colo.-based Level 3 explained that most Quilt members are non-profit regional network aggregators that offer advanced network services to research- and education-oriented institutions. In purchasing as a group, Level 3 noted, Quilt members are able to leverage their collective strength and acquire bandwidth and other services from Level 3 at a more favorable rate than they could negotiate independently. Level 3 Communications is an international provider of fiber optics-based telecommunications services.
