PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Assocation released their MoneyTree venture capital report over the weekend, reporting that venture capital firms invested $7.1 billion in 907 deals nationally in the third quarter of 2008. According to the report, which used data from Thomson Reuters, investments were down 7 percent compared with the second quarter of 2008. The report said that Colorado received $184.4M in 26 deals for the quarter, and the Southwest region--defined by the report as Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada--scored $59.2M in 17 venture capital deals. The top industries for investment were Biotech, with $1.35 billion invested, then Software, with $1.34 billion. The third ranking sector for investments in Q3 was Industrial/Energy, which includes clean technology investments, which saw $1.2 billion invested.
