Vongo, the Internet video on demand service run by Englewood, Colorado-based Starz Entertainment Group, has shut its doors, saying on its web site that as of August 1st the site is no longer accepting subscribers. The service, which offered online downloads of movies, is referring subscribers to Starz Play, a similar offering from the firm offered in conjunction with Verizon. Starz launched Vongo in January of 2006, and charged subscribers $9.99 a month for the video streaming service on Windows PCs. Vongo itself replaced a joint venture with RealNetworks called Starz Ticket.
