PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association released their MoneyTree venture capital report over the weekend, reporting that venture capital activity dropped to $7.1B in 922 deals nationwide for the first quarter of 2008. The investment activity dropped from Q4, when $7.8B was invested in 1045 deals. According to the PwC and NVCA report, based on data from Thomson Reuters, 11 of the 16 industries tracked by the survey saw a decrease in levels of investments, and 14 of the 16 saw a decreased deal volume. Dow Jones VentureSource, which also released its quarterly venture capital numbers, totaled $6.84B in deals in 603 deals, with a 7% drop quarter to quarter. Neither group released numbers covering the Rocky Mountain region as defined by this publication, however PwC/NVCA did report that Colorado had $297.7M in 26 deals for the quarter.
