Broadband Internet service provider Zayo Bandwidth announced Thursday that it has created an umbrella operating company called the Zayo Group, which will contain Zayo Bandwidth and two newly formed business units, Onvoy Voice Services and Zayo Managed Services. According to Dan Caruso, Zayo Bandwidth's chief executive officer and co-founder, Zayo Bandwidth will continue to offer fiber-based bandwidth services to carriers and technology, government, education, health care and financial services companies. Onvoy Voice Services will provide tandem-switched access, long distance, SS7, directory assistance and operator services to local exchange carriers and other communication providers. And Zayo Managed Services will manage voice, video and data services for private and public sector companies. The move, Caruso explained, comes as the result of Zayo Bandwidth recently acquiring four regional fiber networks and a retail voice-over-Internet-Protocol provider. Based in Louisville, Colo., the Zayo Group is a privately held company backed by Columbia Capital, M/C Venture Partners, Oak Investment Partners, Battery Ventures and Centennial Ventures.
