Ascent Solar Technologies Inc., a developer of thin-film solar cell modules and materials, reported today that the United States Air Force Research Laboratory has expanded its existing contract with the company. Ascent Solar said the updated contract could be worth up to $749,000 in additional revenues across a 27-month span. The Littleton, Colorado-based company explained that the laboratory is funding Ascent Solar's development of high-performance, thin-film tandem photovoltaics. Tandem solar cells are stacked so that the top cell collects solar energy from the blue spectrum while the bottom cell absorbs energy from the rest of the visible light spectrum.
