LANDesk Announces Intrusion Prevention Tool
Salt Lake City-based LANDesk Software has unveiled a new computer security application, the company announced Monday. Called Host Intrusion Prevention, the new product goes beyond conventional anti-virus and anti-spyware programs in that it uses multiple means to detect intrusions, LANDesk said. The company added that, in addition to the standard practice of scanning file signatures, HIP analyzes network traffic and machine behavior to identify potential threats. The software is available immediately at the suggested retail price of $13 per system node. LANDesk is owned by Avocent, which acquired the firm last year.
