Applied Materials Buys Applied Films
Applied Materials has acquired Longmont, Colorado-based Applied Films, saying this morning that it would purchase the company for $464M. Applied Films develops thin film deposition equipment used for manufacturing flat panel displays, solar cells, flexible electornics, and energy-efficient glass. The deal is an all-cash deal, $28.50 per share of each outstanding share of Applied Films. Applied Materials said that the acquisition will complement its thin film nanomanufacturing technology capabilities, and enable it to expand into new markets. Both firms are listed on the Nasdaq.
